32nd Annual Joint Conference Wraps with Strong Attendance
and Engaging Sessions
The 32nd Annual Conference was a huge success! From September 19–21, more than 500 attendees gathered at the beautiful Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, for an unforgettable weekend in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The energy was high, the networking was fantastic, and the sessions were packed with timely, thought-provoking topics including; Optimization of Cardiovascular Health with Medical Weight Management, Faster is Better – An Update of Heart Failure Care in the Current Era, Common Cases in Cardiovascular Obstetrics & How to Manage Them, and Concomitant Atrial Fibrillation Ablation and Left Atrial Appendage Closure. Special thanks to our Program Chairs, Dr. Matt Cavender and Dr. Bill Abernethy, for putting together such a strong lineup!
Another highlight was the Friday FIT Seminar, where future leaders received real-world advice on Transforming Training & Interests into a Career, Choosing the Right Practice, and Financial Planning: The Physician Perspective. Plus, FITs from both NC and SC programs had the chance to earn scholarships to attend. It was a weekend full of learning, connections, and inspiration.
Friday afternoon brought another highlight with the engaging CV Team Seminar, coordinated by SC Chapter CVT Liaison Nicole Garrett, PA-C, MS, and NC Chapter CVT Liaison, Megan Herrington, PA-C, AACC. Attendees enjoyed a dynamic lineup of topics including Lifestyle Medicine, Structural Heart, and Contemporary Interprofessional Teams in the Cardiac ICU: Focus on Advanced Practice Providers — sparking great discussions and takeaways for the entire CV care team.
The momentum continued with a Women in Cardiology Seminar presented by Dr. Arasi Maran, Director of the Coronary CTO Program at MUSC, followed by the very first WIC Conversations & Connections reception hosted by Amgen — a lively new tradition for networking and inspiration.
The weekend wrapped up in style with the always-popular FIT Jeopardy on Sunday, where the UNC team captured the win. Congratulations!
Another highlight was the recognition of Tom Stuckey, MD, Medical Director of LeBauer-Brodie Center for Cardiovascular Research and Education, for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the Joint Annual Conference. Dr. Stuckey has guided and chaired the Annual Conference when held in NC since 2005, helping to elevate it year after year.
